Therese Melanson Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thérèse Melanson on Sunday, February 11,
2024 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital at the age of 94.
Born in La Hêtrière in the beautiful Memramcook Valley, she was the daughter of the late Mathilde
Doucet and the late Laurie LeBlanc.
She is survived by her husband Yvon; her seven children, Denise (Maurice Gallant), Charles-Eugène,
Gabriel (Brenda-Lynn Mercer), Jean-Marie (Judy), Marielle (Jean-Guy Poirier), Yvette (Robert Goguen)
and Annette (Francis LeBlanc); nine sisters and brothers, Aurélia (Léo Gaudet), Pauline (late Roger
Beaulieu), Jeannine (Fernand LeBlanc), Bernadette, Anna, Gérard (Annette), Paul-Eugène, Rachelle and
Simone (Arthur Smith); three grandchildren, Laurent Poirier (Carolyn), Gabrielle Poirier and Adèle
Poirier; and two great-granddaughters, Rubie and Céline Poirier, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her younger brother Claude.
After studying at the Normal School in Fredericton, she worked as a teacher in Memramcook, Dalhousie,
and Moncton. With the arrival of her children, she left teaching to devote herself wholeheartedly to her
family. Later, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to run a successful general store in her native valley for
11 years. She passionately supported two causes: French-language education in Fredericton (where the
family moved in 1963) and the well-being of people living with mental health conditions. Her
unwavering determination and generosity made a significant impact.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital, especially Dr. Ginette
Sika and Dr. Nancy Saulnier and Dave, her nurse on her last day. Also, thanks to Dr. Vincent Melanson,
Dr. Rina Lee and Dr. Michel D'Astous; the New Brunswick Extra-Mural health care team; Ambulance NB
paramedics; Joline who came to Thérèse's home to do her hair every Friday.
Visitations will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home, 15 La Vallée Road, Memramcook, on Saturday, February
17 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in St. Joseph. After the
